We felt that baby book demanded more recognition than it is presently getting. So we had decided on writing on baby book. Enjoy it.

Titles Sell Books

Titles Sell Books
Judy Cullins 2004 All Rights Reserved

A clever title is great if it is clear, but a clear title is always preferable. The best? A clear and clever title. A shorter title is better than a longer one. Your reader will spend only four seconds on the cover. While some long titles have succeeded, usually the shorter, the better.

A title is part of your book's front cover. Busy buyers including bookstore buyers, wholesalers, distributors and your audiences buy mainly because of the cover. Dan Poynter, author of Writing Nonfiction, says, "The package outside sells the product inside." Make your cover sizzle.

Start with a working title before you write your chapters. Include your topic, your subject and use the book's benefits in your sub title if possible. Here's your ten tips for titles that sell:

1. Create impact for your title-check out print and radio ad headlines. Check out other authors' titles on the bookstore shelves. Your title must compel the reader to buy now.

Which title grabs you? Elder Rage or Care Giving for Dad?

2. Include your solution in your title. Does your title sell your solution? Make sure it answers the question rather than asks one. For instance, Got Minerals?, or Minerals: The Essential Link to Health. Use positive language instead of negative. For instance, Without Minerals You'll Die can be Minerals: The Essential Link to Health.

3. Make it easy for readers to buy. Readers want a magic pill. They want to follow directions and enjoy the benefits the title promises. For example, 1001 Ways to Market Your Books by John Kremer gives at least 1001 ways for authors and publishers to market their books.

4. Expand your title to other books, products, seminars, and services. Make sure that your title will work well with the title of your presentations, articles and press releases you'll need to promote the book. Such seminars and teleclasses titled "How to Write and Sell Your Book- Fast!" and "Seven Sure- Fire Ways to Publicize your Business" come under the umbrella "fast book writing, publishing and promoting."

5. Use original expressions--a way of expressing one idea for your book--yours alone. Sam Horn, author of Tongue F!, puts her special twist on defusing verbal conflict.

6. Include benefits in your subtitle if your title doesn't have any. Specific benefits invite sales. For instance, Marilyn and Tom Ross' Jump Start Your Book Sales: A Money-Making Guide for Authors, Independent Publishers and Small Presses.

7. Choose others' book covers in your field as models. Go to your local bookstore with five-colored felt tips pens and paper. Browse the section your book would be shelved on. Choose five book titles and covers that attract you. Photo copy or sketch those, noting the colors, design, fonts, and sizes of fonts. Add other colors you like.

Place the book cover you love near your workstation to inspire you. For the final copy, use professional cover designers if possible.

8. Be outrageous with your book title. People do judge a book by its title. Your reader will spend only four seconds on the front cover and eight seconds on the back cover. It must be so outstanding and catchy that it compels the reader to either buy on the spot or look further to the back cover. Take a risk. Be a bit crazy, even outlandish.

9. Be your strongest salesperson self. Choose the strongest words, benefits, and metaphors to move your audience to buy. Titles do sell books.

10. Include your audience in your title. This gives your book a slant. When your title isn't targeted other famous authors' titles win out. Always make your title clear and make it easy for your audience to recognize they need your book.

Your title and front cover is your book's number one sales tool. Short titles are best, say three to six words. John Gray didn't get much attention with his book "What Your Mother Couldn't Tell You and What Your Father Didn't Know." He shortened it to the now famous, "Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus."

An outstanding title sells books. Make sure to give this part of your book, the number one essential "Hot-Selling Point," some time and effort.

Customer Review: Just what I needed

These are just what I needed for my Thinkpad x60s. Now I can finally hear the movies and TV shows I download and watch with iTunes on my laptop while traveling! I recommend this item for anyone who needs a simple and inexpensive way to increase laptop sound when watching downloaded video.

Customer Review: Terrific Little Speaker with Clear, Strong Sound

After reading several dozen consumer reviews describing laptop speakers I puchased this one. You simply plug it into your laptop, or USB hub, swivel the gooseneck to position the speaker where you want, and you've got an excellent speaker that fits in a small laptop utility bag.

The only complaint I have is that there is no quick volume control; once you've plugged it into your USB port, it overrides the laptop's volume control "knob". You have to open the volume icon in your Control Panel every time you want to adjust the speaker volume, which can be too slow when you're being blasted by a loud video.

This is not to say that there is anything wrong with the volume modulation in the speaker itself, just that there seems to be a wide volume range across items I view--YouTube, email messages with videos from friends, etc.

If this speaker had a volume control knob it would be perfect!

Customer Review: Great Gift Idea

I got this for my mom for christmas, she loves it and says it works great.

Customer Review: not good for bindings

I bought this clear cookbook holder to replace a similar one that broke after years of daily use. This new one really squashes down the pages and it is very difficult to use for thicker cookbooks. I'm worried that it will eventually lead to unnecessary wear and tear on the bindings.

The Spiderwick Chronicles (Boxed Set): The Field Guide; The Seeing Stone; Lucinda's Secret; The Ironwood Tree; The Wrath of Mulgrath

The Spiderwick Chronicles (Boxed Set): The Field Guide; The Seeing Stone; Lucinda's Secret; The Ironwood Tree; The Wrath of Mulgrath
It all started with a mysterious letter left at a tiny bookstore for authors Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. Its closing lines: "We just want people to know about this. The stuff that has happened to us could happen to anyone." Little could they imagine the remarkable adventure that awaited them as they followed Jared, Simon, and Mallory Grace and a strange old book into a world filled with elves, goblins, dwarves, trolls, and a fantastical menagerie of other creatures. The oddest part is in entering that world, they didn't leave this one!

Five captivating books!

One thrilling adventure!

The Spiderwick Chronicles

Customer Review: Great Value!

Confession Time: I had never heard of Spiderwick until we saw commercials for the movie. I decided it would be a good pull to increase my daughters reading - she is on the Autism spectrum, and her reading interests are usually higher than her reading ability, she becomes discouraged and the book collects dust. I purchased the set with the agreement that only after we finished the books we'd go to see the movie.

We just got our set and I was so pleased to see that each book is hardcover and so beautiful in appearance. In the past we've ordered sets marked as hardcover and in fact they were talking about the box they are stored in :P. Last night we began reading, forgot about the TV and found ourselves halfway through the first book in no time at all. Even her 3yr old sister came in to listen. This morning while her baby sister watched TV - my older daughter was exploring the books, reading and looking through the pictures. They are a hit.

Now for the Great Value part. I called our local big chain book store (so I didn't have to wait for them in the mail) it was 67+ for this set . I couldn't believe it. I ordered it from Amazon expecting to wait a week or so to get it. With free shipping it was here in just a few days. I love a great price with great value!

Customer Review: Awesome series

This is a great book series for kids - especially boys. This is the second set I have bought, and I bought it to give to my son's school library!

44 Years of the Fantastic Four

44 Years of the Fantastic Four
The 44 Years Of Fantastic Four DVD lets you revisit and relive the wild adventures of the Fantasic Four -- the First Family of superheroes! This collection brings together almost every Fantastic Four comic ever printed - from the first issue in 1961 through December of 2004. Watch them keep each other alive as grow into a family, while doing things no human before them could: Travelling to alien planets, mapping new dimensions, getting involved in interstellar wars and so much more.

Customer Review: A Fun DVD - But There is a Technical Oddity

The DVD delivers a lot of Fantastic Four fun. Even includes the comic book ads. If you are a FF comics fan you are sure to like this ... The only thing to be aware of is that, in the case of Windows-XP, you can't simply put the DVD in and watch for the opening screen to emerge. You have to boot up with the DVD already in the drive. When the boot-up is finished then you can use

Windows Explorer to view the images (The Apple Mac does not have this problem).

Customer Review: Great buy

I enjoyed reading the comics and I loved the convenience of having them all in one place. With this many comics, I never would have had the space to store them.

However, I deducted one star, but not for content. There are much nicer comic readers out there than Adobe that they can use.

The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book
Disney's 1967 animated feature seems even more entertaining now than it did upon first release, with a hall-of-fame vocal performance by Phil Harris as Baloo, the genial bear friend of feral child Mowgli. Based on fiction by Rudyard Kipling, the film goes its own way as Disney animation will, but the strong characters and smart casting (George Sanders as the villainous tiger, Shere Khan) make it one of the studio's stronger feature-length cartoons. Songs include "The Bare Necessities" and "Trust in Me." --Tom Keogh

Customer Review: Racist

A long time ago an African American friend criticized this movie because it was racist. I'm white and couldn't understand her perspective, that was before VHS and it was impossible to view the movie when I wanted to. Years past and I had kids, we rented it one day and I was horrified at the lyrics sung by Louie, the ape. Do you really want your children listening to an ape singing (with an exagerated Southern accent), "I want to be a man... An ape like me can learn to be human...Someone like me can learn to be someone like you..." It is very racist and we didn't finish the movie. Think about it.

Customer Review: kid's movies

Excellent movie for young children and adults as well. My grandson (2 yrs) has watched it enough to sing the songs in it. Very good movie. Buy it. Watch it over and over.
