Comic Books History - Part I
Because comic books have such a long history I'm breaking up this series into several parts.
Comic books. Arguably one of the largest industries in the world. To be able to store every comic ever written you would need a city the size of New York and even then I think you would run out of room. No question, comic books are here to stay. So when did this multi billion dollar a year industry actually start.
Actually the origin of comic books is not really known for certain. Up until recently there was one theory of what the first comic book was. Then new evidence suggested that this was incorrect. We may never really know when comic books started but as of this writing the first known comic book was "The Adventures of Obadiah Oldbuck" which was written in 1837 somewhere in Europe in several languages. In 1842 an English version of this comic was printed for the United States, more specifically New York City. The comic was 40 pages long and didn't really resemble the comics that we are used to seeing today. There were no word balloons with dialogue. Instead there was text typed at the bottom of each panel to describe the story. A copy of this comic was recently discovered in Oakland CA. The comic itself was done by Rudolphe Topffer who in Europe, was considered to be the creator of the picture story. He created the comic strip in 1827 as a graphic novel. After that he created 7 more graphic novels in many different languages including copies for the United States. These books stayed in print until about 1877. This was considered to be the Victorian Age of comic books which is still incomplete and still being researched even until today.
Even though many comics were printed after that, they have fallen into obscurity and the next known comic book was published in 1894 called "The Yellow Kid." The Yellow Kid was actually a character derived from the comic "Hogan's Alley" but the kid was so popular that the comic book became known by his name rather than by the official title of the comic book. Hogan's Alley was created by a gentleman by the name of Richard Outcault who actually got his start writing for "Truth Magazine". In an issue of "Truth" he did a character cartoon featuring "The Yellow Kid" and it's from that initial publishing that the actual comic came into being a short time later. It is believed that Outcault got his inspiration for "Hogan's Alley" from several cartoonists including Michael Angelo Wolf and Charles Saalburg, both of whom used street kids in their cartoons. It is believed that the title "Hogan's Alley" came from the song "O'Reilly and the Four Hundred" which starts off "Down in Hogan's Alley."
In the next of this series I will be covering what is referred to as "The Platinum Age Of Comics" which spans the years 1897 to 1938 which features the extremely popular "Mutt And Jeff" and "Little Orphan Annie" comics. You don't want to miss this.

Turbo Hydra/350 Hp511
One of the most popular automatic transmission systems is covered in this comprehensive book. Fills in the gaps between the factory manual and what it takes for a do-it-yourself job to be successful. Includes money saving tips like interchanging parts.
Customer Review: Never used it...BUT
I purchased this book with plans of rebuilding a TH350 transmission. I read through the book and it is quite thorough. It was recommended to me by several other gentlemen who had undertaken rebuilding this tranny and had successfully accomplished the task (by using the book).
This is one of those types of things when you have more time than money and can't afford to put the transmission in a shop for it to be rebuilt. You are going to need a few specialized tools or access to them to get this done.
Customer Review: TH 350 Transmission
I found this book to be informative and well written. I do believe it will be a great asset to my project

Customer Review: Sons School Bag
I bought this for my son because he complained about to many books and not enought room last yr. Well this one sure fixed him up nicely. It is not to bulky or to wide but seems to fit him just right. He is 14 and he is about 5'2. It is not as waterproof as I'd like for it to be tho. He got into a downpour and some of his things got wet so that would be the only drawback with this pack.I asked him just now if there was anything he did not like about his pack and he said no he loved it. So there you have, hope it helps lol
Customer Review: A FAT fat-boy backpack
It is a very good bag if you have to carry bulky things which are not very long as the bag becomes bulky on the front but is kind of on the smaller side. Otherwise, I think the color scheme is nice- not too bright but not dull and there are ample pockets to keep things organized. All in all- good for its price.

Customer Review: Sony Reader is great
The Sony reader is a great carry on for long travel. The only thing I wish it had was a backlight to read in low lighting situations, as when you have a light on it, the glare seems to get in the way of reading it.
Otherwise, I have probably sold 10 of them because of all the inquiries I've had on planes and a cruise I was on.
Customer Review: The best thing for readers!
I received this as a Christmas gift, but was eyeing this gadget for myself since Sony announced it. I use the Reader on a daily basis for several weeks now due to my long commute time and especially was grateful to have it while waiting for flights at the airport. I did have some hesitation at first since I do enjoy the actual feel of a book. Now that I have used the Reader, I wouldn't say there is any difference, I may not feel the actual paper but it's outweighted by the convenienve.
So many pros:
-Holds many books; If I finish a book, I have many more at my fingertips and can always remove the books from my Reader and add new ones.
-Lightweight; I carry this in my purse everyday and don't even notice it. It fits into any type of bag.
-Comfortable to use; Very easy to hold and navigate one handed.
-Screen; the screen is large and easy to read. I noticed many reviews listing the screen and the lighting as a negative, and I did agree prior to getting the Reader. Now, for me, it's a positive. I stare at a computer screen for hours everyday, and my eyes get very tired. Not so with the Reader, I can read for hours and not even feel any fatigue in my eyes. The screen and lettering is dark enough that I can read extremely easily but don't have the strain of staring at a bright, white background. And as one reviewer put it, you don't have lighting with a book and no one complains, there is no difference with this.
-Storage space; since all the books are maintained on my computer or the Reader, I never have to worry about where to put the books. And the Sony store allows me to re-download any books I purchased easily.
-Free books; Sony was running a promotion of 100 free classics when I received the Reader. Now who doesn't like free stuff?
-Battery life; the battery life is better then most other gadget battery lives. I can read several books before I have to re-charge the battery.
So few cons;
-Really don't like to Sony ebook store; it takes forever for the search and for the pages to load. Really hinders the impulse purchases (bad marketing in my opinion) or if I have to run out the door.
-No outlet charger, only USB; the Reader comes only with a USB cord and can be charged via the computer. This can be really inconvenient if you are traveling without a computer (vacations). You can load as many books as you need, but if the battery runs out mid traveling, it's useless. Sony should really devise an outlet charger.
-Price; the Reader is pretty expensive, but that is the case with all new gadgets. I just hope the price goes down as the technology becomes more prevalent.
-Nor really a con, but something I would really like: Ability to be able to lump books into a favorites, genre, "read" or any other kind of list. I download a bunch of books at one time and don't always remember the names exactly when I am ready to read it. I have to scroll through several pages of books to find the one I am looking for. Would really be helpful if I was able to segregate books the I have read, by genres, or possibly authors.
I would recommend the Reader to any avid reader.

Flash Action Addition and Subtraction transforms flash cards into exciting learning games that help children practice addition and subtraction. Audio guidance, colorful graphics, animated rewards and positive reinforcement motivate learning.
Customer Review: The Best of Addition/Subtraction Math Software
This is a GREAT program. The main screen allows 1 or 2 players, play against the clock, challenge another player, or practice one set at a time (0s, 1s, 2s, etc.). The second screen is a Magic Square (table)from 0 to 12 to help the student find the correct answer, and posts the math family group in upper right-hand corner that will repeat back the equation clicked on. It can be used to solve a problem on the main screen, or as an exercise in itself. It has rewards after each set is successfully completed, it keeps track of progress, and can adjust the difficulty of the problems. In a word, Fantastic! My kid loves it, too!
Little Einstein's Pat Pat Rocket
Little Einstein's Pat Pat Rocket
Customer Review: Go Rocket!
We bought our daughter a room full of toys for Christmas. After opening all her gifts she would have been happy with just this one, she loves it! Only down fall for mom and dad is the speaker is LOUD! Other than that it is really cool. Its a litle two heavy for a two year old to use the handle that retracts from the bottom but she just carries it with two hands and has a blast! If your kids love Little Einsteins dont hesitate to buy this, if they dont watch Little Einsteins they should be!
Customer Review: One of the better Einstein toys
There's not really a lot out there when it comes to Little Einsteins, making it a tough call for toys to buy my obsessed son. Rocket is a great toy though. It is fairly large, but easy to hold and fly for a three year old (mine is two and needs help). It has a LOT of sayings, including each time you place a figure in their corresponding seat. The fins are a hard rubber type, as well as the dongle, making the fear of snapping them off or stabbing someone very minimal. The handle for flying is retractable. Rocket lights up, and makes great noises that so far have not annoyed me. My son loves it, and is easily one of his favorites. My gripe is that it doesn't have many accessories, and other parts come in the playsets (which seem very boring). It also isn't even remotely educational like the show. It is purely for fun. Now come on Disney, license some more Einstein products, that encompass the show more!
