Lucrative Market In Selling Used Books

Buying used books was not always in fashion. On the contrary it was not considered acceptable and was looked down upon. College students and book-lovers made clandestine trips to stores that sold second hand books. Not only did their purchase of the large number of books that they wanted come cheap, the bookstores also gave them the time and space that they required to browse through various books. These trips promised an unstrained period of time with coffee, background music, a soothing flavor of the age gone by and years of paper.

But then the poplar bookstores realized that there was a lucrative market in selling used books as well and soon enough the independent operator who were also booklovers themselves were shoved aside in the race to make money. The consumers also realized the practicality of the buy and are no longer embarrassed to be seen with a used book.

The result ? large bookstores added a section on second hand books and more and more people flocked to it. Today buying an old book has become as frustrating as buying a brand new best seller. The pleasure of experiencing the sweet fragrance of the Victorian age at the crummy but loveable stores has become a thing of the past.

To give you a first hand experience of what happens at these stores, let me take you to a trip to one such store. After you travel through pellets of rain in maddening traffic and arrive at the magazine section in a buffed up store looking for an old edition, you realize that there are some eight people standing in front of you. There is no solace in the fact that these people are genuine buyers and shall get on with their purchases because all that they do is scratch their bottoms, talk on cell phones, rummage through the pages of magazines leaving them debased with smudges and smears or just plain simple hang around.

Since a trip to a brick and mortar bookstore has become such a thwarting experience, buying old books on the Internet seems much more convenient and comfortable. You miss the crummy but loveable ambience but can sift through many books to find the one you want in seconds. Some of the great sites that I have discovered for second hand books are listed below.

Powells.com is the site of one of the largest bookstores that spans a city block is a few stories high. Situated in Oregon you require a map to navigate. Navigating through these on the Internet seems like a better prospect than physically sailing through the sea of people.

Ebay.com helps in searching a book or periodical using the search engine

GreenAppleBooks.com is one of the latest favorites in the Bay Area. Their physical store is an antithesis of the crowded chain bookstores.

Word Power (http://www.word-power.co.uk/about_us) is one of the few independent online bookstores and does not receive any state or other funding to promote, or maintain. So do visit the site and check it out!

Ebooks With Master Resale Rights: What If Everybody Does It?

Many online gurus will tell you that reselling ebooks with master resale rights is a great way to produce income. They're right. You'll get no argument from me.

Consider a common scenario, however.

Joe Blow comes out with the next great ebook. He offers to sell it to you with master resale rights. You buy it, add it to your website (or even create a new site), and start trying to sell it to other people.

Do you make any money? Maybe, maybe not.

Have you considered how many other people are doing the same thing? If everybody and his brother is selling that book, you're competing against a very large bunch. They may have bigger, more responsive lists than you do. They may have better Google PR than you do.

You might not even register on the web radar.

So how to do people make good money on ebooks with master resale rights (or ebooks with resale rights of the non-master variety)? They get out there first, and they make their offer unique.

If you can buy master resale rights to a brand-new product launch (ebook or otherwise), that's probably best. If you can buy limited master resale rights, that's almost as good. If you can buy limited master resale rights to something new and unique, you've hit the jackpot.

That doesn't happen often. The alternative is to wrap some compelling marketing around what you resell. Add some bonuses. Emphasize an aspect of the product nobody else does. Sell it in a creative way.

If you get creative, ebooks with master resale rights can come closer to living up to their promise.

North & South Book I (VHS, 6 videos)
Customer Review: Hubby pleaser

Great flick. Easy for you to watch with the hubby while he appreciates the gift!!!

Customer Review: Well made but not exactly Revisionist History

Plenty of talent on hand. Swazee comes off

best in here as Southern fighting for his

land (and later country), but badly stereo-

typed rest of cast (except for Leslie Ann

Down), especially Alley, Carradine and many

blacks (how about the Buckwheat meets Fred

Williamson act by Forrest Whitaker?!) hurts

overall production. Beautifully filmed and

edited like the sorry Broke Back Mountain,

but wastes too much time inputting the Pro-

ducer (especially Dave Wolper, I'm told...)

ideas. Yes, there are several redeeming

(white and black Southerns in here; especi-

ally Washington and Sally Reemus) but there

never was any guy named Bent who tried to

"off" CSA Pres. Jeff Davis, who is played

very well by Lloyd Bridges(, who comes off

much better than small-faced Hal Holbrook

as Lincoln). Also, where are the blacks that

fought for the Confederacy?! There where 100,

000 more than fought for the Yanks during the

war between the states. Also, no mention of

white or Indian indentured servants! Oh well,

that's Hollyweird for ya, Y'all! Long live

the South! But go to atlanticbullionandcoin

dotcom for the real South, in DVDs and videos!

Volvo 850, 1993-1997 (Haynes Manuals)

Volvo 850, 1993-1997 (Haynes Manuals)
Manuals for the Do-it-yourselfer All Haynes manuals explain how to carry out routine maintenance, restoration and servicing of cars and motorcycles, and are aimed primarily at the Do-it-yourselfer

Customer Review: A good basic guide

Far better than the Chilton's equivalent, this Haynes guides focuses on a small enough "slice" of models and years to allow it to get some decent detail. Far from perfect, of course, but a decent guide for the money. (Since the Volvo manual is a four-digit proposition, it's a reasonable trade-off.)

Customer Review: Nuts and Bolts -Volvo 850 Series '93'97 (Haynes Manuals)

Just what you have come to expect from Haynes/Chilton. This is a pretty thorough overview of the Volvo 850's systems, maintenance, and repair. It is not as thorough as some more expensive maintenance manuals. But it will get you through most procedures. If you get stumped, there are plenty of Volvo forums and user groups out there to fill in the fine details.

All in all, it is a great starting point for maintaining your own car. Just remember that you will have to fo somewhere else for fine detail.

Customer Review: Works for my 924S

After reading reviews & recommendations from various sites, I decided that this was the book that I needed for my 924S. It is right on the money! Even though there is very little mention of the 924 in this book, the photos presented, could be of my car. If you are looking for a repair manual for the '87-'88 924S, this is what you want.

Customer Review: Good for the money

Not too expensive and it's good for the small jobs that would need a little help with. Good for head gasket's deffinitly since they are a [...] load harder to do alone without a book. This is also handy since I have a tight budget and need to save money. It does tend to tell you to go to a porsche dealer on harder tasks alot. So overall this is not ment for the complete overhaul but most of the small annoy and expensive stuff. A head gasket job alone can cost you $600. While if you buy the head gasket for $[...] and then do it yourself with a $[...] book. You just saved a big amount of money and time since you dont need to leave your car at the shop. Recommended for people who need assistence deffinitly.

We had put all our efforts to produce some respectable reading matter on book sellers. We sure do wish it's respectable enough for you.

Benefits Of E-books

The internet has brought us many great things including streaming music, online shopping, electronic bill pay and many more beneficial applications. One thing that I feel is often overlooked but very valuable is ebooks. Especially ebooks in the non fiction/self improvement subject areas.

Just as there are many great musicians that will never get signed - there are thousands of great authors who will never get the big book deal. Thanks to the internet and ebooks ? we can tap into the minds of these great authors. One common misconception is that if the book was any good it would get signed by a major publisher. This is simply not true. The publisher may feel that the information is not marketable when indeed it really is. There can be numerous other reasons the e-book author does not get a big book deal but don?t let that stop you from missing out on some great information at a great price.

An e-book author is free to write what they truly want and will not be influenced by a publisher, publicist, or any one else. Ebooks usually contain much more than a printed book. They sometimes have printable worksheets, menus, lists, affirmations or any number of other beneficial items that relate to the particular topic of the ebook. Unlike mainstream authors, ebook authors are often times reachable and happy to answer questions you may have about their ebook.

An e-book is purchased directly from a website and then downloaded immediately to your computer. You can read it right there on your computer screen or print it out and take it with you. You can enlarge the font if you are having trouble seeing the print, you can transfer it to a memory stick or other media so that it is portable, or you can simply read it as you have time. Most ebooks come with a money back guarantee and special bonus items.

I urge you to give e-books a try. Find a subject you are interested in and then shop around. You will discover new authors, new skills, new behaviors and perhaps a whole new you.

Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time

Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time
The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Taliban’s backyard

Anyone who despairs of the individual’s power to change lives has to read the story of Greg Mortenson, a homeless mountaineer who, following a 1993 climb of Pakistan’s treacherous K2, was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers and promised to build them a school. Over the next decade he built fifty-five schools—especially for girls—that offer a balanced education in one of the most isolated and dangerous regions on earth. As it chronicles Mortenson’s quest, which has brought him into conflict with both enraged Islamists and uncomprehending Americans, Three Cups of Tea combines adventure with a celebration of the humanitarian spirit.

Customer Review: A MUST READ!

Truly inspiring. I'm trying to think of how to get our country's leaders to read this amazing book. It spoke to me, as I have long believed that terrorism must be fought with education, giving people of the world hope and the means to achieve a better life. I hope that all the others who have reviewed this book have been moved to make a contribution to this very worthy cause, as I have!

Customer Review: A "must-read"

This book is a "must read" for anyone who is serious about trying to understand what is happening (and what can happen) in the name of promoting peace in the world. This book is well-written and significant.

La Vie en Rose (Extended Version)

La Vie en Rose (Extended Version)
Picturehouse and HBO Films present a critically-acclaimed biopic about the legendary international singing icon Edith Piaf, whose voice and talent captivated the world. Starring award-winner Marion Cotillard (A Very Long Engagement, A Good Year) in an astonishing performance, the film is a portrait of a remarkable artist born into poverty who survived using the only gift she had â€" her voice. Piaf’s tragic life was a constant battle to sing and survive, to live and love, with no regrets.

Customer Review: I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS MOVIE 10 STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a passionate movie...passionate in sorrow and joy. The life of Edith Piaf blossoms in the hands of this actress...I think she should've recieved 5 more oscars for this film.

Customer Review: La Vie en Rose (DVD)

This DVD is a biographical portrayal of Edith Piaf, the famous French jazz vocalist. Her trials and tribulations exceed what most of us ever have to endure. It is her voice which saves her and makes the DVD so entralling. Exceptionally well done movie.

NFL Playoff Action Good for Vegas Books

Pittsburgh's upset of Indianapolis coupled with Denver's disposal of two-time defending Super Bowl champion New England proved to be a knockout blow to the public over the weekend, sending many parlays and teasers tumbling along with futures tickets.

Last week, Stardust Race and Sports Director Bob Scucci forecast a New England-Carolina Super Bowl to the Professional Handicappers League, believing heavy favorite Indianapolis would stumble on the road to Motown, site of the NFL's 2006 showcase.

Monday, Scucci crowed to the Las Vegas Review-Jounal, "If I felt there was a time for the Colts to be ripe for the picking, it was this game, and I said it before the game."

Patrick Daugherty, a Stardust night shift supervisor, and Robert Jaynes, the Stratosphere Tower's race and sports director, agreed bet shops enjoyed a better Saturday than Sunday, which wasn't chopped liver either.

"A lot of teasers were blown with Indy," Daugherty declared, referring to Pittsburgh's stunning 21-18 victory over the Colts that eliminated them from Super Bowl XL contention.

"We had some run over, but it knocked out others," Jaynes said.

Jaynes added that the number was so elevated "educated players" considered it "way too much."

"Some places had it as high as Indy minus 10," he declared. "We opened at 9 1/2 and went down to 8 1/2."

Jaynes revealed the Stratosphere took a "giant" wager -- mingled with many smaller ones --on Indy earlier in the season, when the Colts were 3 1/2 to 1 to win the Super Bowl.

Carolina's 29-21 downing of Chicago was bad news for folks holding Bears futures, as well as bookmakers, who saw early bucks on the Bears but more late ones on the Panthers.

"The public and wise guys both liked Carolina," Daugherty noted. "We went from 3 to 2 1/2.

"Where we did well was with the total."

The 'Dust opened the over/under at 31 1/2, the number dropped to 30 1/2 and went off at 31.

"People were betting the under," Daugherty noted.

The Stratosphere total bounced between 30 and 32, going off at 31.

"The over/under wasn't what did it to us," Jaynes said. "It was the money line and points."

The Seattle-Washington NFC matchup was either a barnburner or sister-kisser, depending on what number you bought -- again highlighting the importance of shopping around for that extra half-point.

The NFC champion Seahawks won 20-10.

"Seattle was bad," Daugherty said succinctly.

"Either you got a small win or a push," Jaynes observed from behind the counter.

Saturday's blockbuster was the Broncos.

"Early money was on the Pats, but we started to see more and more parlay money on Denver as the day went on," Jaynes said.

Stratosphere players were all over the Panthers, so much so that the number slid all the way to Bears minus 2.

"People were saying they thought we had the wrong favorite listed," Jaynes continued. "We went all the way to 2, though some places had it at 3 and even 3 1/2."

Daugherty acknowledged futures liability pretty much dissipated over the weekend.

Some stores had jeopardy on the Bears, others on the Redskins. Chicago opened as high as 100/1 in some futures books.

A number of stores still are out on a limb with the Panthers.

"We'll be rooting against Carolina," Daugherty said, presumably because the Stardust would clear less on the Panthers than with the other three survivors.

The Stratosphere opened Seattle at minus 4 1/2 and the number quickly fell to 4. Denver was posted as a flat 3-point favorite and by Monday afternoon the Broncos were minus 3, minus $1.30.

"Why move the number when you can just raise the price?" Jaynes asked.

Taking Chances

Taking Chances
Brand new 14-song studio album featuring such songwriters and producers as John Shanks, Ben Moody (formerly of Evanescence), Linda Perry, and Ne-Yo.

Customer Review: Sounds like a bad night on American Idol

I've bought several of Celine's albums but I was disappointed with this one. It really lacks the enthusiasm of the others. The remake of Heart's alone will have you wanting to take out Celine and put the real thing in...it just doesn't work. The other songs were dull and forgettable.

If you are a fan of a new day has come, this is very different, and you will likely be disappointed, and may enjoy some of her older albums over this one.

Customer Review: for Celine fans only

enjoy Celine's voice but this cd was disappointing. luv the title song "Taking Chances" ~ one of her best. was hoping the rest of the songs would be just as good. sadly, not so. read where she was trying for a 'new'sound. well, she accomplished THAT. too bad it wasn't a good sound. die-hard fans will like this, I'm sure. me? not so much.

Customer Review: Gilmore Girls, season 7

I suppose seven years is a long time and i shouldn't be suprised that Gilmore Girls was coming to an end.

However, it was a sad ending

At least we got the ending we wanted!!!! (hint, hint)

Always funny, and enjoyable

Farewell Gilmore Girls

Customer Review: Not the best season

I have all the seasons of Gilmore Girls so I had to get the last season but for me it was the most disappointing season, especially the ending. I felt like I was cheated. I just could believe it ended the way it did. I guess they meant to make the last scene like the beginning of the first episode. What I like about the DVD is the extras, but that's it.
